The 2025-2026 school year marks the eleventh year for the Beaufort Academy Emerging Leader Scholarship program. This scholarship is designed to identify and support a rising 9th grade student throughout his/her upper school tenure at BA. Founded anonymously by Beaufort Academy parents, this award is unique in its focus on identifying future leaders and cultivating their leadership skills.
All current 8th grade students are encouraged to apply.
The application process consists of an online application, essay, online assessment by a teacher, and personal 30 minute interview for the final candidates by the Emerging Leader Scholarship Committee.
The recipient of the scholarship will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship every school year throughout Beaufort Academy Upper School (up to $4,000 total) to help to defray the cost of tuition. The requirements to secure and maintain this four-year scholarship are:
- The student must maintain at least an 88 (mid-range B) average throughout upper school.
- The recipient must maintain membership in the Interact Club and become a Student Ambassador.
- The recipient must attend a leadership conference prior to his or her senior year. The conference will be mutually agreed upon by the recipient and the scholarship committee, and will be funded and organized by the Emerging Leader Scholarship.
- The recipient must be active in one community organization.
- The recipient must be active in leadership roles at Beaufort Academy.
What does the emerging leadership student look like? Who should apply?
- B or better students who can answer the following questions with a “Yes” can and should apply.
- Are you the kind of student who knows when to step up and take a leadership role and when to follow?
- Are you the unsung hero in some cases who does the right thing and seeks no recognition?
- Can you describe situations where you have shown courage, clarity, and/or character?
- Would financial assistance help you continue or begin your enrollment at Beaufort Academy?
The completed application deadline is April 1, 2025 by 12noon. (no exceptions)
All decisions will be made by the end of April 2025 and will be presented during the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony on May 22, 2025.

HOW TO APPLY
- To apply, complete the online application below by no later than Tuesday, April 1 at noon.
- Upload a typed 3 paragraph essay in PDF form with the online application. The essay should be no more than three paragraphs that addresses the following competencies and gives an example of how you have shown any one or all three of these attributes. Applicant’s name must be included in the document.
- Courage: to speak and act on fact and conviction
- Clarity: articulate verbally and in writing complex subjects simply
- Character: act with humility and integrity-do what you say you will do
- Submit name and contact information of a teacher who will complete a confidential online assessment of your leadership potential.
