
Description
This week-long camp will expose students to competitive Speech. Concepts addressed include interpretation of literature, impromptu speaking, speech writing, and basic debate. On Friday students will compete in a mock tournament at 9:00am. This tournament will include awards for top speakers. Members of our State Championship winning Speech & Debate team and alumni will act as coaches. This camp will include team building and games that foster communication skills. Your camper will learn from some of the best that South Carolina has to offer including State Finalists, National Tournament qualifiers, and our reigning State Champion in Poetry Interpretation. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop, iPad, or electronic device with internet capabilities.
Speaking Eagles Speech Camp
- Camp will be held on BA's main campus in Mr. Nagel's classroom, #304.
- Camp will run from July 14th - 18th, 9am-12pm.
- Rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students are welcome to attend.
- Cost $175 for the week. This includes materials needed, snacks, and awards/certificates.

BA Director of Speech & Debate: Mr. David Nagel
As a former competitor, Mr Nagel was an individual State Champion, National Finalist, and National Champion. He participated in S&D at the MS, HS, and Collegiate level on scholarship. In his 13 years as a coach, Mr. Nagel has led teams in two different states to State Championship titles, 3 total. He has coached several individual State Champions and National Qualifiers. This year he was also awarded the "Donus D. Roberts Excellence in Coaching Award” by the National Speech & Debate Association. Mr. Nagel teaches Leadership, Drama, and Gov't/Econ at the Upper School.
